Sharing

For Mother’s Day, I’m giving both my mother and my mother-in-law two photobooks. Since I already gave away the surprise, I won’t tell you what the content of those books are  but the above photo is in one of them!

And since I’ve shared a computer giveaway, a Bokeh software giveaway already, I’m sharing this Snapfish giveaway by The Pioneer Woman as well! There’s something for you, but you’ll have to go over there to see it. I’m not sure it’s up to me to put it here but it’s on her site so go there! I’m using it today and tomorrow for Mother’s Day books. I’m so excited.

I’m a big Snapfish fan. I’ve been using them for several years and I created a calendar for the both my mom and my girl last Christmas. The product was beautiful. This is not an advertisement. They’re not paying me to say this, I wish they were but they’re not.

So that’s what I’m sharing today…Happy Friday!

Bokeh Giveaway By iheartfaces.com

For those of you who are not photographers or don’t care in the least about photo-editing software, then you can skip the rest of this post. But come back and read the next one. As soon as I write it that is.

But for those of you who are interested in photography and such…here’s something for you!

football_tackle_before

I never knew what bokeh meant before I got interested in photography but now I chase it all the time. I have a good camera, but let’s face it, bokeh is something I really have to work at.

football_tackle_after

But there’s an application out there that gives it you without having the uber fast lens, which I don’t have. I used the sports example above because I think it’s cool. Notice the nice blur of the stands putting the focus on the players. You sports moms can have a field day with this. No pun intended. I tried editing in bokeh with a blur tool and light filters etc…but I was going gray doing just one photo.

IHeartfaces.com is giving away a copy of Bokeh by Alien Skin. Go there and leave a comment and you can win. Simple.

I don’t want to get too excited but I did already win the Aurora software. The husband knows that lightning can strike twice, and he has been struck more than once. Maybe it will happen to me, winning the software that is, not getting struck by lighting.

lucky3

Here’s some more lucky clovers for you, courtesy of the girl. It’s weird how she can find these on a lark.

Good luck to y’all!

Update: For the geeks out there, I wrote something on a giveaway for you too. Now all I have to do is find some place that is giving away scrapbooking paraphernalia, fitness clothes, cooking tools and antique furniture and I’ll have all of my hobbies covered. Anyone? Anyone?

Something For The Geeks

hpmini1

Hey you geeks out there! Alright, here’s the scoop. I have a love/hate relationship with computers. Most of the time I love them. Then when they don’t work I hate them. That’s why I rely on the expertise of these guys.

But when it comes to new technology, I can’t help but be fascinated, curious, and then finally, I WANT IT. So now I have a 2.4 GHz, 3 G, with a small harddrive SONY computer. Small (but not that small) because I have several external drives for my bazillion photos.

So now to the point. 5 Minutes for Moms is giving away this cute little HP Mini 1000. Did I say cute?

If you are a mom, or if you know a mom, or if you have a mom, then go to their site and leave a comment. Hey, why not? After all, I won something today! You can too! The possibilites are endless! The world is our oyster! The universe is spiraling down to one big-end-of-time bang. So you best get your comment in.

Now I don’t feel responsible for you not knowing.

And I can’t write  a post without putting in a pretty picture. Just a reminder to you guys, that Mother’s Day is coming up. Don’t forget to send flowers. After all, they carried you in their womb, suffered through morning sickness, endured hours of agonizing labor and finally pushed you out of their bodies in a pool of blood and amniotic fluid.

But look how cute you are. I have to cook dinner now.

And The Basket Winner Is!

longaberger

Just a reminder that the Longaberger Tarragon Booking Basket giveaway ends tomorrow at 12:00 pm or thereabouts…I hope to be home by then. Anyway, leave your comment if you want to win. I promise the winner will be chosen in a perfectly transparent way…

Good luck.

Update: The contest has officially ended and now I’m just waiting until the boy gets out of bed so I have a witness for the “drawing.” It has to be official.

The winner has been chosen!

Thank you for entering this little contest. I knew half the people who entered personally. It means that my family and friends come here. I’m really glad for that too.

The the winner is…wait, first I’ll tell you how we chose the winner.

giveaway3

With the assistance of the boy, we started the scientifically accurate method of selection.

giveaway1

First he writes the names of those who commented – by hand – on scrap paper. Very scientific so far.

giveaway2

Then he folds the scrap paper with the names on it and puts them in my sauce pan.

giveaway4

He actually found the right lid for the pan and shakes up the folded pieces of scrap paper…to make it more random than it already is.

giveaway5

He looks away, and picks a name…and…

giveaway6

he reads the name…and…

giveaway7

it’s Kristyn. Congratulations Kristyn! You saved me shipping! Contact me to claim your prize. Or better yet, I’ll just call you. Or maybe I’ll just stop it by your house.

There were really only 20 or so people who left comments and one of them was the husband who didn’t count.

I’ve written at least 10 posts since the giveaway which means, I’ll be at 500 posts in no time at all. So I’ll have another giveaway then, unless of course I do one for no reason, which is right in line with my personality.

Thanks for playing! This is fun.

Congratulations To You & A Giveaway

After posting almost one and half times a day for the last six months, I must be busy not to post on a Friday.  I’ll show you what I’ve been doing tomorrow.

I love this whole blogging phenomenon and ever since I started doing it last August, I’ve been addicted. I don’t know who comes here or why but I’m glad you do and even if no one came, I would still photograph and write on my little corner of the internet.

thebarn

Because I have a short attention span, I’m going to incorporate some images during this LONG post that I took this month for the One Word project at Shutter Sisters. In accordance with my short attention span, I only managed a few shots…

I am an avid scrapbooker and before I started my online scrapbook – this very blog – it was my creative outlet. I haven’t done much scrapbooking since August because I wrote my first post then. August 16th as a matter of fact and my first post was about a flying squirrel. I didn’t know what the whole blogasphere was about or why people had blogs. Aside from a few news blogs, I don’t think I even read any.  Since then, I’ve found that most blogs are about something, photography, food or whatever. I guess I didn’t know that when I posted the squirrel. Mine still really isn’t about anything but my life…my family…my interests. I’m grateful for visitors who stop by my place because I love having guests over. The difference between visiting here and visiting my real home is that I don’t have to clean up before you come by.

baaice2

Another image break.

I have been all over the blogasphere, looking at other people’s interests and lives and I’ve been inspired, tickled and challenged. I love it. I particularly love that you share your expertise, your photography tips and your recipes. The creative side of me says “wow, that’s beautiful.” And the analytical side of me says, “wow, I wonder how they did that.”

The other phenomenon I’ve encountered on my travels through the internet is the giveaways. I don’t care why people give things away, I just like entering the contests. I thought to myself, “I should give something away,” but I don’t have any money or anything that people would want – so it seems. For some reason it seems okay for other people to do it but not for me.

However, today I am celebrating something, my 250th post. My latest post last Thursday about my little girl was my 250th post. After doing the math, that’s almost 1.4 posts a day. I guess I have a lot to say. So I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and giving something away. You wouldn’t know it if you had quit reading already. I don’t blame you. But I congratulate those of you who got this far. I know life is busy. Who has time to read the long protracted blabberings of a perfect stranger? Anyway, if you made it this far, you will know that I’m giving away a Longaberger basket. Even as I write this, I’m slightly uncomfortable. I don’t solicit well. I’m not my own advocate and I’m not good at this – you know – “Leave a comment and I’ll give you something.”

snow5

Cute neighbor girl image break.

I’m not overly sentimental. The husband is the one who remembers most “firsts”, the day we met, the day he asked me out, etc. I don’t. I blew by my 100th post without any hoopla. I blew by my 200th post without any acknowledgment. I briefly acknowledged my 10,000 hit to my husband and moved on.

But I am taking a breather today and celebrating my 250th post with a “giveaway.”

birds92

Bird breather. Hang in there, I’m almost done.

I used to be a Longaberger basket consultant a long time ago. I stopped because I decided that you really can have too much of a good thing. I had baskets coming out of my ears. I went into my closet and found this cute little basket. It’s been in there forever, I don’t know how long I’ve had it. I’m giving it away to one lucky person who leaves a comment here. It can be about anything, it doesn’t matter at all. You can just say hi if you want.

longaberger

So leave a comment below and you’ll be automatically entered. Even you guys -  your wives or girlfriends may like a Classic Tarragon Booking Basket. It’s da bomb. I thought about selling it on eBay but it’s much more fun to give it away. It will be fair to others if you leave only one comment. I’m going to leave the “contest” open until next Saturday.

Good luck and thanks for coming by.

Love Wins ~ A Giveaway From The Heart

lovewins

I love this season. It is when our hearts really become open to giving and therefore receiving the greatest gift of all, love.

My friend Danny is giving away a photography package…the gift in his own words…read on…

I am joining with photographers worldwide in the “Giving is Awesome” call to action to help make a difference for one deserving individual or family this holiday season.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $500 worth, to be exact. Whether it’s canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $250 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in the southern Maryland area (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Prince George’s counties). Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : danny@studiodouglas.com

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve (or shortly after that) — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Love wins,

Danny
