I haven’t had much time lately to play with Photoshop but tonight, it’s how I’m relaxing. I have two plays for Laura over at dolcepics this week.

The before ~
Now you see why I wanted to play. This little girl is so adorable and the SOOC is just perfect.

The after #1 ~ I made her a drawing with a colored pencil fill.
My photographer geek friend Danny sent me this link and I decided to use it on this photo. I followed the tutorial but thought the end product didn’t really capture the little girl. After all, the photo that Mr. Barker is working on is a bathroom. So I chose instead to put the last layer on “color” in the layer palette. Then I lowered the opacity of the color and texture layer so that the little girl and swing was more prominent. I really had to play around with the layers and messed up several times so please make sure you make duplicate layers if you are going to play. Unless of course you know what you are doing, unlike myself.

If that’s a little too much, then I did this second play, using actions from TRA.
This is fun…I could stay up all night doing this but I don’t dare. Tomorrow comes pretty quickly!

I just watched the line drawing tutorial you linked. Very interesting! I was wanted to try that out sometime so I guess I can now. I like how the lines and colors work on this image.
And the 2nd one is beautiful as well. Gives me a dreamy feeling almost and seems well suited to a photo of the beach.

You are doing great. I have big plans but just can’t get the hang of doing layers. For some reason it does not penetrate my brain. And there is so much I want to do. I use Photoshop Elements.

Oh I am so with you! I think Elements is a great way to start…you obviously want to learn to photo-edit beyond the basics which is why you have it. It’s not the most intuitive program but certainly very powerful. All I can say is keep at it! There is so much on the internet that will help you along the way. I have a couple of posts you can look at.
I suggest you go to this one and start there. Go auto all the way! Play with it. http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/01/03/photoshop-elements-its-da-bomb/ http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/pse-tip-auto-is-everything/
Then I would suggest you do this, open up a photo, make a new layer (ctrl N) or up in your tabs on top (Layer>New). You’ll see two layers in your layers palette, exactly the same. Go to your layers palette where it says Normal. When you click on it, you’ll see a whole bunch of options. Click Soft Light. You’ll see a change right away. It’s one of my favorite things to do to a photo for a quick punch. The layer on the bottom if your original. The new layer you created lays on top like pages in a book. Go ahead and flatten the photo (Layer>Flatten Image) and you’ll see the layers disappear into one layer.
Go to this link. I have some screen shots up for you to see and hopefully understand better. http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/pse-tip-soft-light-for-faces/
Here’s some others for you to look at. I haven’t written a tutorial in a while, I guess I’m waiting for the football season to start again before I do:) http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/pse-tip-the-philadelphia-eagles-and-eye-glasses-reflection-fix/ http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/03/06/its-friday-contemplation/ http://lifesignatures.wordpress.com/2009/02/04/pse-tip-the-clone-tool-and-apologies/
I was over at your site. Your son is very handsome! Good luck on his acting career.
